HIGH-ACHIEVING INDONESIANS WIN AUSTRALIAN ENDEAVOUR AWARDS

Jakarta, Jan 14 (ANTARA) - Some 21 Indonesians with high achievements won the Australian Government's Endeavour Awards 2009 and congratulated by Australian ambassador to Indonesia Bill Farmer here Wednesday.

"We warmly congratulate the Endeavour Awardees and wish them every success in their study," the ambassador said.

The Endeavour Awards are the Australian Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations' internationally competitive, merit-based scholarship program providing opportunities for leading and promising Indonesian researchers and professionals to undertake short or long term study, research and professional development in a broad range of disciplines.

The Awards enable Australians to do the same in Indonesia and this year, eight of them have won Endeavour Awards to work in Indonesia.

"Australia is very proud of these high achieving Endeavour Award holders who we believe will contribute to the cooperation between Australia and Indonesia by strengthening the linkages that will lead into a better future for both countries," Farmer added.

Endeavour is not only beneficial to both countries, but also to the awardees as individuals, strengthening their capacity to develop their professional career and achievement in their chosen fields.

One of the awardees is Rizaldi Indra Janu from the Indonesian Maritime Security Coordination Board (BAKORKAMLA) who will undertake a professional development program in Maritime Security which he believes will contribute to Indonesia's capacity to combat transnational crime at sea, while also fostering bilateral working relationships.

Stefanus Lawujan, another awardee, said that Endeavour Scholarships would enable researchers and professionals from Australia and other countries to work together and find solutions to common problems. He is a research candidate in Hospital Management from Husada Utama Hospital in Surabaya, East Java.

"Through the Endeavour, I will gain so much knowledge and learn from Australian experiences on how to efficiently manage hospitals to be competitive in the market and provide the best medical services to the patients," Lawujan said.***
