Appeals Court upholds verdict against arsonists

Manama, May 26 (BNA): Chief of Terror Crimes Prosecution, Advocate General Ahmed Al Hammadi, today said that the High Court of Appeals had upheld the 15-year jail term verdict issued by the High Criminal Court on November 19 against six defendants who were found guilty of setting the Jidhafs Municipality building ablaze.
The case dates to October 16, 2014, when the suspects gathered at Jidhafs Municipality building.
The first, second and third suspects stormed the building and poured gasoline on the ground and upper floors, while the fourth suspect poured the same substance onto the building from outside. The first suspect ignited the fire and the fifth suspect and another unidentified suspect stood vigil while the fire was spreading. The sixth suspect consensually joined the other suspects and incited the first suspect to commit the crime.
The Criminal Investigation Directorate carried out investigations, arrested the suspects and referred them to the Public Prosecution according to applicable legal procedures.
