Prime minister to attend Davos Forum

By Yoo Cheong-mo
SEOUL, Jan. 15 (Yonhap) -- Prime Minister Han Seung-soo will visit Switzerland in
late January to attend the Davos Forum, an annual meeting of intellectuals and
international political and business leaders, his aides said Thursday.

The meeting, organized by the Geneva-based World Economic Forum, will be held
from Jan. 28 to Feb. 1 in the Swiss ski resort of Davos. It is expected to bring
together nearly 2,000 figures from around the world, including U.N. Secretary
General Ban Ki-moon, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, Chinese Premier Wen
Jiabao, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Russian Prime Minister Vladimir
Putin.
Organizers have selected "Shaping the Post-Crisis World" as the main theme of
this year's forum, Han's aides said. The prime minister is to meet with global
leaders to explain the Korean government's green growth policy and measures to
overcome the financial crisis, they added.
"The prime minister will also preside over a debate session on globalization,
economic recovery and climate change."
In addition, Han will hold a series of bilateral meetings with the leaders of
foreign governments and international organizations to ask for their support in
South Korea's bid to join the Financial Stability Forum (FSF), according to his
aides.
The FSF was created by the Group of Seven countries and other key financial
players in February 1999 to promote stability in international financial centers
through enhanced information exchanges and greater cooperation in financial
supervision.
