Suu Kyi, Myanmar President to visit Thailand
BANGKOK, June 1 (TNA) - The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs says that Myanmar's democracy icon, Aung San Suu Kyi, who is now the country's State Counselor, will visit Thailand later this month, while new Myanmar President Htin Kyaw will attend the Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) 2016 in Thailand in October.
Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai told journalists on May 31 that Suu Kyi, who is also a Nobel laureate, is expected to visit Thailand in late June in her capacity as Myanmar's State Counselor, which is equivalent to the premiership.
Don stated that the exact date of Suu Kyi's arrival in Thailand will be officially announced later.
According to the minister, Suu Kyi will also meet the Myanmar community during her upcoming trip to Thailand.
Besides, new Myanmar President Htin Kyaw is scheduled to attend the ACD 2016 in Thailand in October, during which he will also meet Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha after their earlier meeting at the ASEAN-Russia Summit in Russia last month. (TNA)
