Cross-border Myanmar-Thailand bike event set June 11-12

RANONG, THAILAND, June 2 (TNA) - Myanmar's Kawthaung Township and Thailand's southern Ranong and Chumphon Provinces, as well as the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), Chumphon Office, will jointly organise a cross-border bike event later this month to strengthen bilateral relations and promote local tourism of both sides. Accompanied by representatives of the local public and private sectors, Ranong Governor Suriyan Karnchanasilp crossed the border to meet the Kawthaung governor on Thursday to discuss joint arrangements of the 3rd Ranong-Kawthaung cycling event, set to be held during June 11-12. Cyclists are welcome to the two-day event, representing a new form of sports-linked tourism promotion, as participants will pass through popular tourist destinations of both sides. On the last day, cyclists will ride across the sea through the longest wooden bridge in Myanmar's southern region into Kawthaung, where they are scheduled to donate sports equipment and stationary to a local school and enjoy 360 degree-views of the Myanmar seaside township.(TNA)
