South Korea keens on investing in two electric train lines

BANGKOK, June 4 (TNA) -- South Korean prospective investors are interested in investing in two electric train lines in Thailand, designed for improving urban communication and easing traffic congestion, said Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittyapaisith. Mr Arkhom said the investors are keen on investing on the Pink Line from Min Buri to Kae Rai and on the Yellow Line from Lat Phrao to Samrong which would be Straddle Monorail system. They have also shown interest on investing in high-speed train projects running between Bangkok to Rayong and from Bangkok to Hua Hin, he said. Those South Korean investors wishing to invest on these projects must join with Thai private companies in bidding, said Mr Arkhom. Touching on a cooperation for a rail system from Mae Sot district bordering Myanmar to Mukdahan province bordering Laos, he said a South Korean working committee would conduct a survey within the next few months because Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak wants to see the project complete as soon as possible. After the study by South Korea is complete, discussion will be held while Japan which is now conducting a study on the route will also be considered by the Thai government whether which one is more feasible, Mr Arkhom added.
