One killed, seven trapped after resort collapsed

TRAT, June 4 (TNA) -- One Thai tourist died while seven others, including a three-year-old child, trapped inside a collapsed hotel on Koh Chang in Trat island resort province bordering Cambodia on Saturday, police said. The two-storey Siam Beach Resort near the beach and surrounded by a mountain collapsed following landslide caused by a heavy rain, police said. The dead victim died immediately while asleep while seven other people were trapped under the debris, police said, adding that volunteers and villagers were assisting them in rescuing the victims. Latest report said four injured persons were sent to a nearby hospital for treatment. Their conditions were not serious. Meanwhile, Tourism and Sports Minister Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul said she had ordered related officials to find ways in helping the victims. (TNA)
