Navy, rescue officials search for collapsed resort victims
BANGKOK, June 4 (TNA) -- Navy and rescue officials Saturday afternoon continued searching for victims trapped under the debris of a two-storey resort on Koh Chang off Trat province bordering Cambodia which collapsed following a landslide caused by heavy downpours, officials said.
A Thai tourist died while asleep and seven others trapped under the collapsed Siam Beach Resort building, located near the beach surrounded by a mountain, officials said.
About 30 personnel from the First Navy Area Command of the Royal Thai Navy along with rescue officials were trying to assist the injured, trapped victims under the debris while helicopters and medical personnel were on standby to provide assistance, they said.
Officials said three navy ships were prepared to transport the victims ashore after they were rescued. (TNA)
