Bid to smuggle convicted fugitives to Iran foiled

Manama, June 4 (BNA): The Coast Guard has foiled an attempt to smuggle eight fugitives convicted in terrorist cases on a boat heading to Iran, the Ministry of Interior has said. The investigations have revealed that the planners behind the operation were Sadiq Makki Jassim, sentenced to 10 years in Bahrain and currently a fugitive in Iran, and Sadiq Al Hayki, sentenced to life in prison and currently a fugitive in Iran as well. The coast guard vessels spotted a boat off the coast of northern Bahrain. The boat was chased and then interdicted when those onboard refused to stop. The following individuals were arrested: 1- Hassan Ali Mansoor, resident in Bilad Al Qadeem, sentenced to 10 years in jail 2- Hussain Mohammed Hussain, resident of Bani Jamra, sentenced to 15 years in jail 3- Ali Mahdi Hassan, resident of Bani Jamra, sentenced to 10 years in jail 4- Mustafa Abdulaziz Fatail, resident of Bani Jamra, wanted 5- Sayed Alaa Maitham, resident of Bilad Al Qadeem, sentenced to 10 years in jail 6- Hussain Ali Hassan Mansoor, resident of Bani Jamra, sentenced to 10 years in jail 7- Mohammed Ali Jaffar, resident of Bani Jamra, sentenced to 10 years in jail 8- Ali Mohammed Saleh, resident of Bani Jamra, sentenced to 10 years in jail. The boat captain, Hussain Abdullah Al Safar, a resident of Bilad Al Qadeem and his assistant Mahmoor Hameed Al Mutawa, a resident of Juffair, were also arrested. The arrestees’ ID cards, money, mobile phones, personal belongings, as well as a GPS and a large quantity of petrol were confiscated. Legal proceedings were taken.
