Permanent Secretary for Finance visits Sadao customs checkpoint

BANGKOK, June 5 (TNA) -- Sadao customs checkpoint is the most important border checkpoint for Thailand as goods valued more than one trillion baht crossed the border into Malaysia annually, said Somchai Sujjapongse, permanent secretary for Finance, on Sunday. Mr Somchai said while inspecting the customs checkpoint that preparations have been made for Sadao customs checkpoint following the implementation of ASEAN Community by constructing a new building with the construction costs of over 2.5 billion baht which separates the checking of passenger buses from truck carrying goods. He said the new building has speeded up checking of goods trucks from before. Padang Besar customs checkpoint also in Songkhla province is another important border checkpoint as goods valued between 400 – 500 billion baht enter Malaysia annually, Mr Somchai said. Songkha province could become a cultural tourist destination if attempts to make it a world heritage materialised, he added. (TNA)
