TENDER FOR 10,000-MW POWER GENERATION PROJECT'S 2ND PHASE SOON

Jakarta, January 15 (ANTARA) - State-owned electricity company PLN will call a tender for the phase-II implementation of the country's 10,000 MW power generation project in February, a PLN director said.
Director of PLN for planning and strategic affairs, Bambang Praptono, said here on Thursday the first power production facility to be put out to tender was the Pemalang thermal power plant with a capacity of 2,000 MW in Central Java.
"The second phase of the 10,000-MW project will be carried out under an independent power producer (IPP) scheme," Praptono said.
He said the second phase of the 10,000-MW project was different from the first phase in which all the power production facilities were built by PLN itself.
The PLN director said about 30 percent of construction work in the second phase would be carried out by independent power producers and the remaining 70 percent by PLN.
"We hope that all the plants s in the second phase will be completed in 2014 at the latest," he added.
He said plants in the first phase of the 10,000 MW power generation project were all thermal power plants (PLTUs) while in the second phase there would be hydropower and geothermal plants.
The total capacity of the second phase is 11,144 MW, of which 68 percent or 7,644 MW would be PLTUs, 19 percent or 2,135 MW would be geothermal power plants (PLTP), 10 percent or 1,065 MW would be gas-power plants (PLTGU) and three percent or 300 MW would constitute hydro-powered plants (PLTA).
Of the 11,144 MW power plants, 18 plants with a combined capacity of 6,970 MW will be built in Java and 65 others with a combined capacity of 4,174 MW will be located outside Java.***2***
