Government warns of fraud monitoring centre by UDD

BANGKOK, June 12 (TNA) -- The government has warned an establishment of a centre by members of the United Front for Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD) to monitor fraud in a public referendum for draft constitution scheduled to be held this August 7. The UDD or the Red Shirt group, a major supporter of the ousted government of Yingluck Shinawatra, launched the centre in Bangkok last week and plan to open similar centres in upcountry on June 20. Spokesman of the Prime Minister’s Office Maj Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd said Saturday that the UDD should consider carefully whether the set up of the centre violated the existing law. People who established such centre should be clean with sufficient credibility and “most importantly, they should hold political neutrality,” said Maj Gen Sansern, adding that the UDD should first obey the existing law which forbids a political gathering of more than five persons. What core leaders of UDD had said if the government does not allow them to set up a centre could be interpreted that the government wants to cheat the public referendum was totally unacceptable because the government had never thought about it, said Maj Gen Sansern. “The UDD should not worry about any fraud which hasn’t yet happened,” said Maj Gen Sansern. “If they sincerely want to help the country, they should use their manpower in tracing money that was cheated by (former) politicians.” (TNA)
