Minister, governor discuss urban development projects

Manama, June 19 (BNA): Minister of Works, Municipalities Affairs & Urban Planning Essam bin Abdullah Khalaf received the Governor of the Northern Governorate, Ali bin Al Shaikh Abdulhussain Al Asfoor. They discussed urban development projects in the Northern Governorate. At the start of the meeting, the Acting Urban Development Rawya Al Manaei presented a full report on urban development projects at the Governorate, explaining that developing and improving the society is part of municipal councils’ scope of work; as stated in the Municipalities Law No.35 for the year 2001. The Towns & Villages Development Project (Former Social Service Project), which is implemented in coordination with all concerned entities, aims to provide construction services for the low income families. Al Asfoor said a number of field visits were made to a number of villages, to ensure that they are compatible to the programme. The report covered 36 villages, 9 of which have been detected and 3 have been included within the work agenda. Official letters have been sent to all the concerned entities at ministries. The minister commended the collaboration between the ministry and all governorates; especially the Northern Governorate. He also stated that the ministry had earlier started the programme by developing 5 villages at the Northern Governorate.
