EARTHQUAKE JOLTS MANOKWARY TWICE FRIDAY

Bengkulu, Jan 16 (ANTARA) - Two earthquakes measuring 5.4 and 5.8 on the Richter scale jolted Manokwari district in West Papua on Friday, meteorology and geophysics agency (BMG) has said.

The agency reported that the epicenter of the first quake at 6:37 a.m. local time was located 0.2 degree southern latitude and 133.01 degrees eastern longitude at a depth of 10 kilometers under the sea level, or some 140 kilometers northwest of Manokwari.
Several minutes later a stronger aftershock measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale happened again at the same location but so far there were no immediate reports of casualties and material damages.
Manokwari was rocked by a 7.6 magnitude earthquake on January 4, 2009 and a series of aftershocks, leaving four people dead, some 31 others injured, and dozens of building damaged.
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono immediately on the same day after the earthquakes, sent Public Works Minister Djoko Kirmanto, Transportation Minister Djusman Syafii Djamal, Health Minister Fadilah Supari and Social Affairs Minister Bachtiar Chamsyah, to Manokwari, West Papua Province, to help the quake's victims.
Then on January 12, an aftershock measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale also jolted the district.
