RI ALWAYS READY TO BRIEF WORLD ON ITS TRANSPORTATION SAFETY
Tokyo, Jan 16 (ANTARA) - Indonesia is ready at any time to brief the international community on developments in its efforts to improve national transportation safety, an Indonesian transportation official said at an international conference here Friday.
"Requested or not, we are always ready to keep the international community posted on developments in our national transportation safety, especially so because we already have a road map on national transportation safety," said Herry Bakti, head of an Indonesian delegation to a "Ministerial Conference on Global Environment and Energy in Transportation" in Tokyo.
Indonesia and 21 other countries in Europe, Asia and America are participating in the conference to discuss the use of environmentally-friendly energy in the transportation sector which contributes 23 percent of global carbon dioxide (CO2) emission.
The conference was also participated in by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), International Energy Association (IEA), International Maritime Organization (IMO), World Bank, and United Nations Framework on Climate Change Convention (UNFCCC).
Speaking at one of the conference's sessions, , Herry Bakti said the Indonesian government would welcome any international cooperation effort to improve its national transportation safety.
Meanwhile, another Indonesian delegate to the conference, Afriyanti Samad, said Indonesia had seriously addressed its air transportation safety problem by enacting a new aviation law in December last year.
Samad also mentioned the fact that the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) had expressed optimism that the sir safety standards of Indonesian airline companies would continue to improve.
