ABOUT 100 PASSENGERS ON FERRY ALLEGED TO HAVE NO TICKETS

Makassar, Jan 17 (ANTARA) - At least 100 passengers on board motor vessel KM Sirimau which left Kupang-Larantuka, East Nusatenggara, for Makassar, South Sulawesi, were alleged to have no tickets.

The allegation was based on a police report from East Nusatenggara to South Sulawesi police which was then passed on to sea and coastal guard unit (KPLP) in Makassar, on Saturday.

The police and KPLP officials were waiting for the vessel at 21:00 local time, but it failed to show up on that time. The vessel arrived at the port about 00:00 local time.
Data obtained from KPLP office in Makassar on passengers listed in the manifest said that there were about 1.150 passengers left Kupang-Lanrantuka in East Nusatenggara for Makassar.

At least 591 passengers disembarked in Makassar, while other 559 continued their trip.

Passengers who failed to show their official tickets of PT Pelni were immediately ushered by the officials to a waiting room at the port for a registration.

One of the passengers from Sengkang who left Larantuka, Ati (50) together with members of her family had no knowledge of tickets asked by offcials of a combined police and KPLP unit.

Hundreds of passengers without any tickets were netted in a raid. "We don't hope more passengers are not registered in the manifest," a local police chief, adjunct commissioner Yadin said.
