JAKARTA TRANSPORT FARE CUTS TO BE DECIDED ON MONDAY

Jakarta, Jan 17 (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Transportation Service (Dishub) and City Transportation Council (DTKJ) will hold a meeting with the Organization of Land Transport Owners (Organda) here on Monday to decide transport fare cuts in the capital city, a city counciLlor said.

"Organda, Dishub and DTKJ will first meet to calculate appropriate cuts in transport fares before they are taken to the the Regional Legislative Assembly (DRPD) for final discussion on Monday," DPRD Deputy Chairman Maringan Pangaribuan said on Friday.

The Dishub and DKTJ held a meeting at the DPRD building on Friday to discuss the lowering of transport fares, but a comprehensive discussion would be held with Organda on Monday, he said.

Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo said he had asked Dishub and DTKJ to take into account the lowering of premium gasoline price to Rp4,500 per liter in calculating transport fare cuts.

"I have asked DPRD to calculate the lowered gasoline price and its impacts so that the DPRD would be able to decide the amount of a final transport fare cut," the governor said.

On the amount of the cuts, the governor said it could reach up to Rp500, but it would finally depend on the decision of the three sides.

In the meantime, Maringan also refused to explain the amount of cuts in transport fares but disclosed a proposal for a cut of Rp500 per passenger.

"There is a proposal that a Rp500 cut should be imposed but we have not yet taken any decision. We are still waiting for the final calculation. We will ask Organda to provide details about the calculations," he said.

Transport fares are to be lowered following the government's decision to cut fuel oil prices on Thursday (Jan. 15). The price of premium gasoline was cut from Rp5,000 to Rp4,500 per liter and that of diesel oil from Rp4,800 to Rp4,500 per liter.***2***
