Prince Saud Al-Faisal addresses Council of Arab Foreign
Despite objections from the US, the decision was crowned with
consensus which was attributed to the persistence and consistency
shown by the Arab Committee through the various stages of
negotiations and consultations collectively and individually with
members of the Security Council such as France and Britain, and other
permanent members, who had a positive response to Arab diplomacy,
enabling it to snatch the required votes, he added.
To this effect, he also noted the sincere efforts made by the Libyan
Foreign Minister in his capacity as non-permanent member of the
Security Council.
Prince Saud pointed out that the Secretariat's report has adequately
explained the different negotiation stages through which the Arab
Committee had gone to press for the issuance of a UN resolution based
on the basic elements of the draft adopted by the Arab Ministerial
Council in Cairo.
Prince Saud Al-Faisal went on to say that it is true that the
Security Council resolution still remains disregarded by Israeli in
consistence with its previous experience. However, the language of
the resolution, given the circumstances surrounding its birth,
particularly the stereotyped rejection of the U.S. in similar cases,
itself represents a very important diplomatic event that we should
invest to enforce an immediate cessation of the war in Gaza, which,
if continued, will have serious consequences.
