NATIONAL MOSQUE RAISES US$8,000 FOR PALESTINE
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 17 (Bernama) -- The National Mosque's Palestine
humanitarian fund received good response from Malaysians with RM29,000 (US$8,138) collected last Friday, its grand imam Syeikh Ismail Muhammad said Friday.
He said four donation boxes were placed at the mosque's entrance from 9am
till 3pm.
The normal amount of donation collected during Friday prayers was around
RM4,000 (US$1,122), he told Bernama.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had
previously said that all donations collected during Friday prayers at mosques
nationwide would be used to help the Palestinians in Gaza.
So far, Ahmad Zahid said, mosques in the Federal Territory recorded a
donation of RM300,000 (US$84,186).
