Premier calls for more GCC security coordination

Manama, July 31 (BNA): His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa has affirmed that countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) have no interest in meddling in the affairs of others, and seek to fend off threats of interference into their own affairs, out of their belief in the sovereignty and independence of every country. He pointed out that the recent developments require the countries of the region to take more measures to safeguard their security and stability, protect their economies and maintain their development process through which they can ensure decent life for their peoples. The multiple plots targeting our region are multi-faceted, which makes coordination and consultation among GCC countries necessary in order to adopt more initiatives that maintain the interests of the Nation, and fortify them against potential threats, stressing the need to regularly evaluate the situation and mechanisms to deal with them to ensure more efficiency and fend off all threats. The Prime Minister made the statements while receiving at the Gudaibiya Palace today a number of senior state officials, alongside intellectual, cultural and press personalities. "Bahrain is a big country with its policies and keenness on enhancing its development and modernization march to achieve the goals set by the government for the sake of the nation and the citizens, and its development efforts will not be impeded by attempts seeking to distract it and make it focus on security at the expense of development," he said. He affirmed that attempts to reproduce the regretful events in Bahrain to fuel sedition, spread chaos and sow division will never succeed, stressing that the "government is keen to take all procedures that ensure reinforcing security and stability." HRH the Prime Minister affirmed that the dignity of the citizens is preserved, and their rights are guaranteed. These principles are deep-rooted in Bahrain, and they have been implemented before they are requested by international legislation and covenants, he added, stressing that the provision of the requirements of decent life for the citizens is the cornerstone of all government action. He called for the need to unify stances to protect the nation and ensure the continuity of its progress, which, he emphasised, is the responsibility of everyone. "Trust in the homeland and loyalty to it are a sacred duty required by religion and the national responsibility. The Bahraini people’s love for its nation is long-standing throughout history and in the present," he affirmed, urging continuous efforts to strengthen national cohesion, reconciliation and unity as the only available option to confront sabotage and terrorism plots.
