RI-CHINA POLITICAL RELATIONS ON BEST LEVEL: ENVOY

Beijing, Jan 18 (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Deputy Chief of Mission Mohammad Oemar at the Indonesian embassy here said on Sunday that Indonesia-China relations were now on their best level where both countries had considered the relations as important and strategic.

"Both countries' political relations are very positive. In fact, Chinese officials have repeatedly told me and Indonesia's ambassador to China about the importance of these bilateral relations," Oemar said.

The diplomat explained that political relations between the two countries had been running well since the re-opening of diplomatic relations in 1990. In fact, he said, the relations in the last five years had been considered to be on the best level.

"The political relations of both countries have undergone rapid progress and at present are considered to be on their best level," he said.

One of the indications of the importance of Indonesia to China, the diplomat said, was the visit of Chinese's Vice Prime Minister Li Keqiang to Indonesia in December 20 to 23, 2008.

During his visit in Indonesia, Oemar said, Li Keqiang had a meeting with Indonesia's President Susilo Bambang yudhoyono and the vice president, Jusuf Kalla.

"Among the main agenda discussed in the meeting is recent global crisis. Both countries have agreed to strengthen bilateral relations in order to overcome the crisis. Both countries are also committed to open market and avoid market protectionism," Oemar explained.

The Chinese commitment to strengthening political relations with Indonesia, Oemar said, was also shown by the extension of soft loans to the Indonesian government worth US$ 800 million which would be allocated for the development of the infrastructure and industrial sectors.

Furthermore, Oemar suggested that the good relations should be maintained.
