New police chief known as hard-liner
Seoul, Jan. 18 (Yonhap) -- Kim Seok-ki, tapped to lead the nation's police
force, is known to be a hard-liner who adheres to principles.
Kim joined the national policy agency in 1979 and is well-known among his peers
for publicly contesting the extent of the prosecution's authority over criminal
investigations, an issue observers expect to re-emerge with his appointment.
He was named head of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency on July 24 last year
when daily street protests against South Korea's decision to reopen its market
to U.S. beef imports were at their peak.
