Sukanya Srisurat wins 58kg weightlifting gold

RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug 9 (TNA) -- Sukanya Srisurat won Thailand’s second Rio Olympic Games gold while Pimsiri Sirikaew claims silver in the women's 58kg weightlifting competition at Riocentro Pavilion 2 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Sukanya, the 21-year-old weightlifter from Chon Buri, lifted an Olympic record 110kg in the snatch and 130kg in the clean and jerk for a total of 240kg, beating, Pimsiri, the silver medallist by 8kg. The old Olympic record was 108kg established at the London Games four years ago by Chinese Li Xueying. 26-year-old Pimsiri from Khon Kaen lifted 102kg in the snatch and jerked 130 for her total of 232kg to add another silver medal to the one she won at Olympic in London four years ago. Kuo Hsing-chun claimed bronze for Taiwan with her combined total of 231. Thailand have won four medals from the weightlifting, grabbing two golds and a silver in the women's competition and a bronze in the men's so far. Sopita Tanasan claimed gold in the women's 48kg on Saturday while Sinphet Kruaithong finished with a bronze in the men's 56kg the following day. (TNA)
