Seoul shares open higher on U.S. rallies

SEOUL, Jan. 19 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks opened higher Monday on high hopes for the U.S. government's stimulus moves, analysts said.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) rose 6.78 points, or 0.62
percent, to 1,141.98 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
U.S. stocks surged Friday on news of the U.S. pump-priming measures, with the Dow
Jones industrial average rising 0.84 percent and the tech-dominated Nasdaq
composite index gaining 1.16 percent.
The local currency was trading at 1,343.85 won to the U.S. dollar as of 9:15
a.m., up 14.15 won from Friday's close.
