Recommendations for UPR draft report discussed

Manama, Aug. 21 (BNA): The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s Board of Commissioners office held its 13th meeting under the chairmanship of the Board of Commissioners President Dr. Abdulaziz Hassan Abul. Discussions focused on the remarks of the sub-committee of the Global Alliance of the National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) which were issued in its final report and posted on its website. The meeting also shed light on the preliminary draft of the institution’s parallel report concerning the recommendations of the team in charge of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) in preparation for the draft report to be compiled and approved by the Board of Commissioners. It is to note that the third session of Bahrain’s UPR is set for February 2017. The office also reviewed preparations for the function to be held by NIHR on the sidelines of the 33rd session of the Human Rights Council which will be held at the Palace of Nations in Geneva in September. The event will spotlight boosting economic, social and cultural rights in Bahrain.
