EARTHQUAKE JOLTS MANOKWARI EARLY MONDAY
Jakarta, Jan. 19 (ANTARA) - A tectonic earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale jolted Manokwari, West Papua Province, on Monday, at 8.06 am Western Indonesian Time (WIB).
The quake's epicenter was located at 0.3 degrees southern latitude and 132.83 degrees eastern longitude, around 150 km northwest of Manokwari, some 181 km northeast of Sorong, West Papua, at a depth of 10 km below sea level.
Earlier, at 7.21 am WIB on Monday, a 5.0-magnitude earthquake struck Sorong, with an epicenter located at 0.51 degrees southern latitude and 131.86 degrees eastern longitude, about 73 km northwest of Sorong, at a depth of 10 km beneath the seabed.
Manokwari was rocked by a 7.6 magnitude earthquake on January 4, 2009 and a series of aftershocks, leaving four people dead, some 31 others injured, and dozens of building damaged.
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono immediately, on the same day after the earthquakes, sent Public Works Minister Djoko Kirmanto, Transportation Minister Djusman Syafii Djamal, Health Minister Fadilah Supari and Social Affairs Minister Bachtiar Chamsyah, to Manokwari, West Papua Province, to help the quake's victims.
