Labour minister receives Egyptian delegation

Manama, Aug. 28 (BNA): Labour and Social Development Minister, and Board Chairman of the Laour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA), Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan, received here today an Egyptian parliamentary and trade union delegation, led by the Chairman of the Manpower Committee at Egypt’s House of Representatives and President of the Egyptian Trade Union Federation (ETUF), Gebaly Al-Maraghy.
Executive Council Chairman of the Bahrain Free Labour Unions Federation (Al-Hurr), Yaqoob Yussef Mohammed, and a number of senior officials from the Ministry of Labour and Social Development attended.
The minister reviewed with the delegation the deep-rooted brotherly Bahraini-Egyptian relations, and ways to bolster them. He also discussed with them areas of bilateral cooperation in the laour and social fields.
The Egyptian delegation was informed about Bahrain’s labour experience, and the achievements attained under the Reform Project, spearheaded by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
The two sides also discussed ways to enhance cooperation between trade unions in the two countries through exchanging expertise and coordinating at Arab and international labour gatherings.
Humaidan said that the visit of the Egyptian trade union delegation provided an opportunity to be informed about Bahrain’s labour market development experience, and discuss the exchange of technical expertise to develop trade union work.
He also lauded the trade union movement in Egypt and its role in consolidating labour gains there, and discussed with the delegation the possibility of Bahrain’s availing of such a deep-rooted experience.
Tackling the situation of trade unions in Bahrain, the minister highlighted the government’s keenness on supporting the work of labour unions and organisations to ensure their independence and ability to assume their role of defending workers’ interests and rights.
Gebaly Al-Maraghy expressed admiration for Bahrain’s labour market reform experience, and praised LMRA’s advanced work mechanisms.
He also lauded Bahrain’s advanced legislation and laws that protect the rights of the three production parties.
He asserted that trade unions’ effective role and independence contribute to creating a productive and stable work environment.
He expressed hope that Arab trade unions would enhance their coordination at regional and global gatherings.
