MER-C INDONESIA TEAM IN GAZA INCOMMUNICADO
El-Arish, North Sinai, Jan 19 (ANTARA) - Four voluntary workers of the Medical Rescue Committee (MER-C) Indonesia who entered the Gaza Strip in Palestine on Saturday (Jan 17) afternoon could on Monday morning not be contacted through official communication channels.
Attempts to make telephone contact with any of the four volunteers from Rafah at the Egypt-Palestine border, from El-Ashir, capital of Sinai province in North Egypt, from Cairo and Jakarta were unsuccesful.
There was no report on the whereabouts of the four Indonesian volunteers in Gaza, Ir Faried Thalib, a MER-C Indonesia staffer handling logistics, told Antara on a trip from El-Ashir to Cairo, the Egyptian capital.
"The last contact we had with them was an SMS (short text) message after the bus carrying them had left Rabah. The message said they would be moved to an ambulance car which would take them to Gaza," Thalib said.
Thalib was the only MER-C volunteer who had not gone to Gaza although he had a permit to do so as he had to remain in Cairo and El-Arish to coordinate the despatch of relief goods to Gaza.
The Indonesian MER-C volunteers team that had departed for Gaza consisted of three doctors and a logistics staffer. They are Dr Jose Rizal Jurnalis, Dr Indragiri and Dr Syarbini Abdul Muradz while the logistics staffer is Moh Mursalim.
