ADI Day observed in Bangkok
BANGKOK, September 1 (TNA) - Bangkok-based Siriraj Hospital organizes an event to observe the Alzheimer's Disease International (ADI) Day, designated on every September 21, aimed to raise public awareness on the Alzheimer’s Disease.
Siriraj Hospital's Faculty of Medicine, Mahidol University, are organizing the event during September 1-2, in which related seminars and activities are included to provide the public with knowledge on the Alzheimer’s Disease that particularly poses a health threat to the elderly.
In Thailand, the number of patients suffering from the Alzheimer’s Disease has increased every year, prompting Siriraj Hospital's Faculty of Medicine to join forces with the Alzheimer’s Disease and related Disorder Association, the Nurses Society for People with Dementia and Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth) to organize the two-day event at the 100th Somdech Phra Srinagarindra Building.
Dr. Weerasak Muangpaisarn, a medical specialist for dementia, told reporters, meanwhile, that the rising number of aging population over 60 years in Thailand has increased to 16.5 per cent of the country’s total population.
According to the medical specialist, dementia can be found in about 5-10 per cent of the elderly, with the lack of physical exercises and brain activities being risk factors of the Alzheimer’s Disease.
Visitors are welcome to attend seminars on the Alzheimer’s Disease prevention and Q&A sessions, as well as cooking demonstrations to
prepare food for brain development, art activities and brain exercise games. (TNA)
