People in downstream areas warned of rising water levels

BANGKOK, September 2 (TNA) - The Royal Irrigation Department, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, warns people living in downstream areas of the Chao Phraya Dam to beware of and to be prepared for increasing water levels in the main Chao Phraya River. The Regional Irrigation Office 12 has sent a letter to the governors of affected provinces, including Chainat, Uthai Thani, Singburi, Ang Thong, Suphan Buri, Ayutthaya and Lopburi, asking them to warn people in their respective areas to be on alert for the extra levels of water in the Chao Phraya River by about 80-120 centimetres due to a large amount of water flowing from upstream areas. The Regional Irrigation Office 12 said, however, that it will control the amount of water flowing to downstream areas through the Chao Phraya Dam at no higher than 900 cubic metres per second. (TNA)
