Indonesian ambassador calls on Deputy PM

BANGKOK, Sept 3 (TNA) -- The Indonesian Ambassador to Thailand had called on Deputy Prime Minister/Defense Minister Prawit Wongsuwon yesterday, during which he announced that Indonesia has send its troops to participate in the annual Military Medicine-Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Exercise, which Thailand is hosting between September 1-11. Defense spokesman Maj Gen Kongcheap Tantrawanich said that Indonesian Ambassador to Thailand Ahma Rusdi has paid a courtesy call on Gen Prawit on the occasion of assuming his new position. The spokesman said the Indonesian ambassador had also used to opportunity to talk about both countries' strong and lasting bond, particularly between the military of both sides. The ambassador then expressed that Indonesia has send its troops for the Military Medicine-Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Exercise which Thailand is hosting this year between September 1-11. They have also talked about the bilateral co-operation during yesterday's meeting, including on fishery, the fight against terrorism and security in the Thai southernmost region. Both sides have agreed on deeper bilateral cooperation through joint consideration of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), in order to ensure the highest benefit and sustainable peace for both countries. The defense spokesperson also noted that Gen Prawit, in response, had expressed his sincere gratitude to Indonesia for its decision to join the exercise, saying this reflected the good friendship between both neighbouring countries.
