Bahrain to host major scientific conference

Manama, Sept. 4 (BNA): Bahrain will host the Biologic Agents Conference themed "Where are we now?" which will be held under the patronage of Lt-General Dr. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, President of the Supreme Council for Health. The Biologics Conference is an informative event organized by Bahrain Pharmacists Society in association with the Saudi Pharmacists Society. Taking place from October 26 to 27, the two-day conference comprises discussion panels, workshops and a lot of interaction. It will bring together a record number of international, regional and national experts to discuss and debate the latest research in the field of biologic Agents. Attending the Conference will shift the participants’ paradigm of the biologic agents as compared to the conventional medications. "The Conference is expected to attract over 500 professionals in the pharmaceutical and medical fields from Bahrain and the GCC to exceed all expectations", said the head of the conference organizing committee and the Society's chairman Yasser Sakheer. Biologic agents represent a class of medications that is distinct from conventional drugs. As described by the FDA, most drugs are synthesized in the laboratory through one or more chemical reaction(s), and their molecular structure is thus well established. They are produced genetically, by culturing proteins from the synthesis machinery that exists in all living cells. These medications represent the forefront of biomedical research; they have evolved owing to biotechnological, molecular biology, genetic and other laboratory techniques to provide therapy for a variety of medical conditions.
