Japanese economic minister calls on Thai PM

BANGKOK, Sept 9 (TNA) -- Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry Hiroshige Seko called on Thai Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha at the Government House on Friday. During the meeting, Gen Prayut invited the Japanese business people to invest more in Thailand, as the government is currently putting in place policy to promote more international investments in clusters and at the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC). He said that it would be beneficial for Japan to invest in Thailand's infrastructure development project, such as the high speed train system linking Bangkok with Chiang Mai province, as well as the new railway linking between the east and west. Gen Prayut has also thanked the Japanese private business people who still has confidence in Thailand as one of the most important vehicle production base for Japan. The two sides further held talks on various topics, including Japan's interests in the auction of THEOS-2 satellite project, in which the Japanese minister informed that Japan possess the technology to produce light-weight satellite with the ability to capture high resolution images, adding that Japan is also ready to help Thailand develop its personnel to uplift the quality of Thailand's aeronautic industry. The Japanese minister then asked Thailand to finalise talks on the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) and the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). The Thai premier said that Thailand is extremely interested in the deal but is considering the pros and cons of the agreement. (TNA)
