Respect for 'Sovereign Equality of States' principle stressed

Manama, Sep. 13 (BNA): Speaker of the Council of Representatives, Ahmed bin Ibrahim Al-Mulla, has underlined parliamentary rejection of any legislation or law that breaches the fundamentals of International Law, especially the concept of Sovereign Equality of States stipulated by the Charter of the United Nations.
Al-Mulla pointed out that the issuance of the “"Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act" by the US Congress will harm relations of states and their interests, adding that the bill is not consistent with international norms governing stable relations among countries.
He reiterated the Kingdom of Bahrain’s firm stance in rejecting and denouncing terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, and in stressing the importance of respect for the International Law.
He emphasised the need for concerted international efforts to combat terrorism, and collective action to ensure security and stability.
In t his regard, the speaker lauded the unified stance of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Arab countries in rejection of the US Congress bill whose negative repercussions –if approved-, he said, would spread chaos, spark tensions and harm countries’ shared interests.
