Vehicle sales in S. Korea drop for first time in 4 years in 2008
SEOUL, Jan. 20 (Yonhap) -- Auto sales in South Korea fell in 2008 for the first
time in four years as the global economic slump weakened demand for new vehicles,
industry data showed Tuesday.
Vehicle sales at home totaled 1.24 million units last year, compared with 1.25
million in 2007, according to data released by Korea Automobile Manufactures
Association. It marked the first annual decline since 2004.
Demand for new vehicles began cooling fast in the final quarter of 2008, the data
showed. During the October-December period, auto sales dropped 19 percent from a
year ago to 248,454 units.
