Thai PM orders 24-hour assistance for flood victims

BANGKOK, September 14 (TNA) - Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha has expressed his concerns over the water situation in the Thai North and Northeast and ordered relevant agencies to be prepared for rendering 24-hour assistance to affected people. Government Spokesman Major General Sansern Kaewkamnerd told journalists of the prime minister's remarks on Wednesday, after the Meteorological Department has warned that the Thai regions could be hit by the approaching storm Rai. The spokesman said the prime minister has also asked people to beware of the danger of floods, flash floods and landslides, as well as to remain indoors during heavy downpours or storms and to move their belongings to higher grounds. Besides, the prime minister has ordered the Royal Irrigation Department and other water-related agencies, along with provincial provinces where the approaching storm is expected to pass through to adjust their water management plans in accordance with the updated situation so that people would be least affected, while also laying out plans to save water for sufficient supply during next year's dry season.
