AZERBAIJAN READY TO DEVELOP EDUCATIONAL TIES WITH RI


Jakarta, Jan 20 (ANTARA) - Azerbaijani's ambassador to Indonesia, Ibrahim El Hafiyeh, said here Tuesday his country was prepared to develop bilateral relations with Indonesia in the educational sector.
"The Azerbaijan government is looking forward to the further development of its relations with Indonesia. One way to reach the goal is through the establishment of Azerbaijan corners at Indonesian universities," the ambassador said at the inauguration of an Azerbaijan Corner at the Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University in South Jakarta.
The envoy said cooperation in the educational sector was one way to strengthen people-to-people relations between the two countries.
The Azerbaijan Corner at the Indonesian univeristy, he said, was intended to share information and knowledge about Azerbaijan with Indonesian, its students in particular. The ambassador also expressed hope that the two countries could exchange students in the future.
"In this way, we will strengthen the two countries' relationship as well as help students in reaching their life goals," the ambassador said, adding that the Azerbaijan Corner's facilities would consist of computers, books and other media providing detailed information about Azerbaijan.
He also said the Azerbaijan Corner set up at Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University was the first in the Southeast Asian region. He expected more Azerbaijan Corners to be established at universities across Indonesia.
On the same occasion, the dean of Adab and Humanities faculty of Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University, Abdul Choir, said the university was honored to host an Azerbaijan Corner.
"I am honorred to have an Azerbaijan Corner in the Adab and Humanity faculty. The corner will be very useful to students, especially to those intending to study in Azerbaijan," Choir said.
The dean also expressed hope that the university's cooperation with the Azerbaijan Embassy could be developed further by the initiation of a student exchange program.
