THOUSANDS STAGE ANTI-ISRAELI RALLY IN BOJONEGORO
Bojonegoro, East Java, Jan. 20 (ANTARA) - Thousands of Muslims grouped in the Muslim Community Forum (FUI) staged a rally condemning the Israeli aggression in Gaza, Palestine, here on Tuesday.
"The ceasefire announced by Israel is only a trick. So, our rally today is not for nothing," Alamul Huda, the rally's coordinator, said.
Qohar Machmudi, a local legislator from the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) called on Muslims to unite because the Israeli attacks had not only hurt the Palestinians but also other Muslims.
Meanwhile, in Bandung (West Java), around 500 members of the Muslim Corps (KAUM) staged a rally on Tuesday, urging the Indonesian government to call for a special meeting of the Asian and African countries to discuss the Palestinian issue.
"Take Israel to the International Court for its war crimes, for using dangerous chemical weapons, attacking civilian buildings, and developing nuclear weapons," Hilal, the rally's coordinator, said.
KAUM also asked the government to cut diplomatic ties with the United States if President-elect Barack Obama also l pursued a double-standard policy in dealing with the Israel-Palestinian conflict.
"If Obama continues the policies of his predecessor, George W Bush, it should be a parameter to determine the diplomatic relations between Indonesia and the United States," Hilal said.
Although a ceasefire had been achieved in Gaza, the loss of more than 1,300 lives in Gaza was unforgivable , and therefore Israel'i leaders should be brought to the International Court, he said.
Another anti-Israeli rally was also held in front of the US embassy in Jakarta on Tuesday.
