Bahrain attends UN meetings on refugees, immigrants

New York, Sep. 19 (BNA): Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, participated in the high-level public meeting addressing the large movements of refugees and immigrants held by the United Nations in New York today. With the participation of the Heads of States and Governments, the meeting discussed how the international community shall deal with this humanitarian issue in the best possible manner particularly in the light of the unprecedented level of immigration in the World and its effects on all states. The meeting adopted "New York’s Declaration for Refugees and Migrants” which emphasized the positive contributions of migrants on inclusive growth and sustainable development, and on the human rights of all refugees and immigrants with no regard to their status and full protection of these rights, expressing solidarity with the millions of people in different parts of the world who are forced by reasons beyond their control to immigrate and leave their homes. It also accepted a set of obligations that apply to refugees and migrants, stressing the importance of a comprehensive approach in addressing the issues involved in this matter, assuring that all persons shall obtain a humanitarian welcoming that preserves their dignity and ensures their basic rights and freedom.
