PLN TO GET 285 MMSCFD IN ADDITIONAL GAS SUPPLIES
Jakarta, Jan 20 (ANTARA) - State electricity company PT PLN said on Monday it will get an additional gas supply of 285.5 mmscfd (million standard cubic feet per day) to meet the fuel needs of nine of its power plants this year.
The additional gas supply would enable PLN power plants to produce up to 1,142 MW, chief of the company's primary energy task force Nasri Sebayang said.
"The gas supply will enable us to reduce fuel oil consumption," he said.
The nine power plants consist of five thermal power plants (PLTGU), two gas-fired power plants (PLTG) and two biogas-fired power plants (PLTGB).
The five PLTGUs are Muara Tawar which will receive an additional gas supply of 100 mmscfd from PT PGN Tbk in April 2009, Gresik 60 MMSCFD from Santos in September 2009, Muara Karang 30 MMSCFD from PGN in April 2009, Tanjung Priok 30 MMSCFD from PGN in September 2009 at the latest and Cilegon 30 MMSCFD from PGN in April 2009.
The two PLTGs are Teluk Lembu which will receive an additional gas supply of 8 MMSCFD from Kalila Bentu as of Tuesday (Jan 20) and Kanaan 1.5 MW from Total Indonesie in April 2009.
The PLTGBs are Payo Selincah which received an additional gas supply of 18 MMSCFD from PT Energasindo last week and Talang Duku which will get 8 MMSCFD from PGN in Juni 2009.
"The prices of gas supplied to the power plants vary but they will not exceed US$5 per mmbtu," he said.
PLN has set the target of fuel oil consumption for 2009 at 7.9 million kiloliters compared to 11.4 million kiloliters a year earlier.
