Addressing drug resistance should have no impacts on access to medicine: Thai PM

NEW YORK, Sept 22 (TNA) – Addressing anti-microbial resistance must have no impacts on access to existing and the prices of medicines should be affordable, said Thai Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-ocha in his speech at the High-Level Anti- Microbial Resistance (AMR). Gen Prayut is attending the 71st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 71) during September 18-25 in New York. Deputy government spokesman Maj Gen Werachon Sukondhapatipak said during the AMR conference, the Thai prime minister as chair of G-77 plus China group of states said that each country has different level of capacity and health system in addressing drug resistance. Without effective solution, developing countries will be much affected. The Group of 77 has implemented the policies to solve the problem but the important thing is the policies must have no impacts on access to medicine, vaccines and medical diagnostic equipment. Moreover, health insurance system, drug researches must be supported. Meanwhile, the Thai prime minister also said during the discussion under the topic, entitled ‘The Sustainable Development Goals: the Universal Push to Transform our World’. He said that this year, Thailand has been the member of the UN for 70 years. He suggested the sufficiency economy philosophy that Thailand has applied in development of the country with the public participation to the international communities. (TNA)
