German documentary on Korean wedding customs to premier at Berlinale

SEOUL, Jan. 21 (Yonhap) -- A documentary film depicting Korea's wedding customs by a renowned German director will be screened at this year's Berlin International Film Festival, the event's organizers said Wednesday.

The film "The Korean Wedding Chest" by Germany's Ulrike Ottinger draws a link
between tradition and modernity of Korea reflected in changes of wedding customs.
The movie, filmed in Seoul last year, will be disclosed to audiences for the
first time at the non-competition section of the Berlinale.
Ottinger, 67, is considered one of the most influential feminist documentarians
in Germany, earning fame after her 1978 movie "Madame X: An Absolute Ruler." The
daughter of renowned painter Ulrich Ottinger, she also works as a photographer.
The director participated in making omnibus film "Ten Ten" sponsored by the
International Women's Film Festival in Seoul last year. She had produced a short
movie, "Seoul, Women, Happiness," a prelude to her feature on Korean weddings.
