Train passengers in Thailand protected by SRT insurance policy
BANGKOK, October 4 (TNA) - The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has provided a personal accident (PA) insurance policy for passengers and its staff members while traveling by trains.
SRT Governor Wuthichart Kalyanamitr told journalists of the new welfare measure on Tuesday, noting that all passengers and SRT officers are all eligible for the PA insurance policy while being aboard SRT trains or while getting on/off the trains on both domestic and cross-border routes as of April 1, 2016.
Wuthichart said that the PA insurance policy, issued by Muang Thai Insurance Public Company Limited, is based on an SRT stance on doing the best to take care of the safety and welfare of all its train passengers and staff.
Wuthichart suggested that all passengers show their ID cards to officers everytime they buy their train tickets so that their individual ID figures are recorded on their tickets for any welfare claim covered in the PA insurance policy.
According to the SRT governor, train passengers are eligible for a free medical treatment up to 30,000 baht each in case they are wounded while being aboard a train or their families are compensated up to 300,000 baht each if a passenger dies in an accident while traveling by a train.
The SRT chief vowed, meanwhile, to take stern legal action against all those found guilty of involving in a hurl of a hard object into a train running between Klong Ton and Hua Mak Stations in Bangkok recently, injuring two passengers.
The SRT governor affirmed that the two injured passengers are eligible for free medical treatments covered by the official PA insurance policy. (TNA)
