Obama's inaugural souvenir wristwatches made by Korean firm
SEOUL, Jan. 21 (Yonhap) -- A small South Korean company took credit Wednesday for making and shipping U.S. President Barack Obama's inaugural souvenir wristwatches, continuing its business that began with a U.S. president 10 years ago.
The Seoul-based watchmaker, K.L.P Korea, said that it recently supplied the
watches imprinted with Obama's name, signature and insignia of the U.S. national
flag to the U.S. government at the request of the presidential transition team.
Some parts used in production were imported from Japan, the company said.
K.L.P. Korea's business relationship with the U.S. government began in 1999,
when it was asked by the South Korean embassy in Washington to manufacture
commemorative watches for then-President Bill Clinton.
The company also won orders to makes watches for the White House and U.S.
politicians during the George W. Bush administration, its officials said.
