Assistant Foreign Minister attends conference on Afghanistan

Brussels, Oct. 5 (BNA): Minister’s Assistant for Foreign Affairs, Abdulla bin Faisal bin Jabr Al Doseri, participated in the International Ministerial Conference on Afghanistan “Partnership for Prosperity and Peace”, held at the headquarters of the EU Council in Brussels, Belgium, on the 4th and 5th of October 2016. He affirmed the keenness of the Kingdom of Bahrain on establishing peace and stability and promoting unity and national reconciliation efforts in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, part of its ongoing efforts to establish regional and international peace and fight against extremism and terrorism, a key pillar for the prosperity of the people and to achieve comprehensive and sustainable development.
Minister’s Assistant for Foreign Affairs also called on the International Community to continue to provide aid and support to the Afghan people and the national government in the fight against terrorism and drug trafficking, and concerted efforts to achieve security, stability and comprehensive and sustainable development.
He also referred to the cooperation of the Kingdom of Bahrain with international bodies and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, according to the resolutions of the recent Islamic summit in Istanbul in April on helping the Afghan government to achieve stability and lasting peace and promote national reconciliation, noting the participation of the Kingdom of Bahrain in supporting Afghanistan and its efforts in women's empowerment and economic and social development.
The opening of the International Ministerial Conference on Afghanistan was attended by 75 countries and several international organizations - in the presence of the President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, and Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, and US Secretary of State, John Kerry, and Afghan Foreign Minister, Salahuddin Rabbani, and High representative of the European Union, Federica Mogherini , and President of the European Council, Donald Tusk.
The Kingdom of Bahrain participated in the meeting of the International Contact Group for Afghanistan at the headquarters of the European Union in New York Mission on September 22, 2016 to prepare for this conference, along with the Kingdom's participation in previous meetings regarding the follow-up to support the peace process and the Afghan development and monitoring the concrete progress in the implementation of reforms.
