KABAN: OBAMA'S SPEECH FAILED TO GIVE NEW HOPE
Jakarta, Jan. 21 (ANTARA) - The chairman of the Crescent and Star Party (PBB), MS Kaban, said US President Barrack Obama's inaugural speech had not yet given new hope of a new US way of thinking toward the Muslim world.
Speaking in response to press questions here on Wednesday, Kaban who is also Indonesia's forestry minister, said there was nothing new in the speech.
He said if there were still opinions that happenings in some countries were terrorist actions, then any effort to create world peace would be useless.
Kaban said Obama should have explained why people had become terrorists.
"If those fighting for their independence, human rights, and their dignity continue to be stigmatized as terrorists, there will always be turmoil," he said.
Actually, Obama had given new hope for change, he said. However, the change would have to start from Obama's way of thinking on seeing existing groups such as those in Gaza, Afghanistan and Iraq, he said.
"To the Muslim world, we seek a new way forward, based on mutual interest and mutual respect," Obama had said in his inaugural speech as the new US president in Washington DC on Tuesday.
