Blood donations need by Thai Red Cross Society
BANGKOK, Oct 8 (TNA) -- Current flooding in Bangkok due to monsoon season not only pose problem for motorists, but to the Thai Red Cross Society as well as it needs more blood donations, especially of the group O.
Hopeful blood donors may have changed their mind at the last minute because of the heavy rains in several areas which have caused heavy traffic, said Dr Ubolwan Charoonruangrit, director of Thai Red Cross Society’s National Blood Centre.
Shortage of blood is now quite critical and the Thai Red Cross Society could supply only 1,400 units daily while it requires to store between 1,800 – 2,000 units a day in reserves, she said.
Blood shortage could be seen, especially in group O as majority of the population in the country has this type of blood, Dr Ubolwan said. In order to solve the problem, cars of the Thai Red Cross Society have travelled throughout the capital to facilitate blood donations from the people.
Demands of group O blood by the Thai Red Cross Society are at 900 units daily, she said. (TNA)
