RI CONDEMNS MOLOTOV COCKTAIL INCIDENT AT EGYPTIAN EMBASSY
Jakarta, Jan 21 (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government condemns and regrets Tuesday's incident in which three molotov cocktails were lobbed at the Egyptian embassy in Jakarta, a spokesman said.
The governments condemns the act although it did not harm anybody nor did it cause any significant material loss, Teuku Faizasyah, a spokesman of the Indonesian foreign affairs ministry, said here on Wednesday.
The Indonesian government would investigate the incident and make sure that those responsible for the crime would be brought to justice, he said.
The government would also intensify security measures at the embassy and protect the mission's personnel and property, he said.
Meanwhile, security measures were tightened at the Egyptian embassy on Jalan Teuku Umar, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday after unidentified people had lobbed three Molotov cocktails at the mission's front fence a day earlier.
Besides internal security guards, a number of police personnel were also deployed to tighten security at the embassy.
But no police line was installed on the embassy's fence walls which were about three meters high. A number of police cars were seen on stand-by around the embassy and in nearby streets.
Central Jakarta Police chief Senior Commissioner Ike Edwin said his personnel were increasing security measures in various vital targets in Jakarta such as embassies.
On Tuesday, a number of unidentified people dropped three molotov cocktails on the embassy's fence walls at 5 pm. But the incident claimed no victims.
Police have questioned several witnesses who were there when the incident took place.
Anti-Israeli sentiment is on the rise in Indonesia following the Jewish state's attacks on the Gaza Strip which had killed over 1,400 people and injured more than 5,000 Palestinians, including women and children. Palestine's Gaza Strip shares border with Egypt, where humanitarian aid had been lining up to enter Gaza through Rafa border line.
