Offensive tweet suspect to stand trial

Manama, Oct. 10 (BNA): Capital Governorate Chief Prosecutor Nawaf Al Awadhi said the Public Prosecution had received a notification from the Cyber Crime Directorate on a tweet comprising the defamation of a religious symbol and a sect, which is likely to incite sectarian sedition. The Chief Prosecutor added that the Public Prosecution launched an investigation and questioned the suspect in the presence of his lawyer. The suspect admitted to posting the tweet on his personal Twitter account and the Public Prosecution ordered to remand him in custody pending further investigation. He was charged with offending a religious symbol and defaming a sect and will be referred to the Criminal Court.
