Bahrain marks International White Cane Day

Manama, Oct. 14 (BNA): Bahrain will tomorrow celebrate the International White Cane Safety Day which falls on October 15. The United Nations (UN) had issued a statement declaring October 15 as an annual International White Cane Safety Day. The World Blind Union which was established in 1984 has also endorsed the event which is celebrated as a universal symbol of access to the world for blind and visually impaired people. . The Labour and Social Development Ministry issued a statement highlighting Bahrain’s strides in caring for this vulnerable category of people and integrating them in society. It paid tribute to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa, His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al-Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier for providing the necessary care for all disabled categories and people with special needs.
